What it's all about

The Servant Leadership School

The Servant Leadership School (SLS) offers classes twice a year—10 weeks in the Fall and 10 weeks in the Spring (beginning in January) on Thursday evenings (afternoon class sometimes available).

At least one of the classes will be a core class, part of the Viriditas Curriculum (see below). These classes along with dinner and worship have become a place to find a deeply committed community that works toward the healing of creation. Rooted in the Christian tradition, open and respectful to the wisdom of other sacred traditions, the SLS models a way of life that is contemplative, active, and communal—sustainable justice-making, rooted in Divine love and wisdom, as well as human community and encouragement.

The beloved spiritual leader Howard Thurman once said, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” The Servant Leadership School creates a structure for seeking what makes you come alive. We believe that the SLS is a way to awaken leaders who will foster transformation of the world into a compassionate, responsible society at peace with ourselves, the world, and with the earth.

Core Classes—The Viriditas Curriculum
Hildegard of Bingen saw the Holy Spirit as bringing green growing power to all of life, transforming dried-up and shriveled lives and institutions into a New Creation. She called this spirit and process Viriditas. The Viriditas Curriculum is composed of 6 core classes and two summer multi-day events that teach a Contemplative-Active-Communal Way of Spiritual Life. At least one of the 6 core classes will be offered through the SLS each semester. Participants may take core classes on an individual basis or apply for admission to the Viriditas Certification Program.
