Our Community Life
Viriditas
Viriditas is a community gathering open to members and visitors that meets about every six weeks following the liturgy to reflect on community life and shape future plans. When necessary, longer meetings may be held on Saturdays.
Weaving Our Journeys and Shalom
Alternating every third Sunday, we gather following the liturgy to build our relationships within the community through two different types of program:
• Weaving Our Journeys is a time set aside for individual members to share their spiritual autobiographies with the rest of the community. Through gathering and listening, we learn about the many different steps along the various paths that have led us to one another in community at St. Hildegard’s.
• Shalom is what we call times of sharing each others’ company in conversation around a meal. We gather at small tables to build community through nurturing intimacy.
We eat together at both of these gatherings and take turns cooking, cleaning, and washing linens.
Communitas
Communitas is a time to talk together as a community without any specific goal in mind. It involves deep listening around a designated topic, an opportunity for each person to speak and be heard. At Communitas, we make space to be present to one another and to ourselves as a community to see what will emerge around a particular concern or issue. We speak from the heart and listen from the heart, but there isn’t any expectation for an official outcome. When a concern has been raised and there is a desire to explore it more deeply, scheduling a Communitas is one option we have of engaging one another in opening up to the topic.
